A crash involving 15 vehicles on Interstate 80 near Iowa City involved nine tractor-trailers and six passenger vehicles and resulted in the deaths of two people early Sunday morning, Jan. 8.
The pileup occurred at about 5:40 a.m. near mile markers 246 and 249 in the westbound lanes of I-80.
The Iowa State Police say preliminary evidence suggests several drivers lost control of their vehicles and crashed into each other. Westbound lanes of I-80 were closed for several hours.
Two people died from their injuries and several other individuals were injured during the crash, according to police.
State police continue their investigation.
